SBK 2022. Puccetti: “The new Supersport regulations don’t help us”

In Misano the Puccetti Team celebrated 20 years of activity. From the “half rotten” truck to titles and world titles, to mega hospitality, but now the new SS regulations are causing concern June 22, 2022

THEThe Misano round was an opportunity for Kawasaki Puccetti Racing to celebrate 20 years of activity together with sponsors and friends. In reality it all started in 1996 when the eighteen year old driver Manuel Puccetti participates in the 125 Sport Production. His career continues with the Aprilia Challenge 250cc Trophy and the Italian Supersport Championship. We are in 2002 when the manager begins to prevail over the driver, and to continue his business Manuel founded the amateur sports association Puccetti Racing Team. A team for just one driver? Not even for a dream, with an innate entrepreneurial spirit Puccetti opens his team to three fourteen-year-olds who compete in the single-make Honda 125 GP, while he continues his adventure in the CIV SS.

The years pass and the team grows, from the truck that he himself defines as “half rotten and rusty” we move on to larger and more reliable vehicles and we reach 2006 when Puccetti disputes his eleventh and final season as a driver. He no longer has time to race: he has to manage the team, find sponsors, organize the technical staff. The real activity of Team Puccetti begins which engages in the European Supersport, in the CIV STK 1000 and in the Yamaha R6 trophy. The results arrived and in 2007 the team passed from Yamaha to Kawasaki, starting a collaboration that continues to this day. In 2008 the team becomes “Kawasaki Supported” and the following year he is one of the top teams of the Italian Speed Championship.

The names of the riders begin to be known: Gioele Pellino, Mirko Giansanti, DStefano Cruciani and Cristiano Migliorati, who once hung his helmet on the fateful nail went to the other side of the fence, and is still the technical manager of Kawasaki Puccetti. Racing Supersport. 2013 is another pivotal year for Manuel Puccetti’s team, which becomes San Carlo Puccetti Racing Team Italia FMI and conquers his first Italian title, with Stefano Cruciani in Supersport, and European with Franco Morbidelli in the Stock 600.

A victory that will be repeated three more times with Marco Faccani, Axel Bassani and with a young Turkish: Toprak Razgatlioglu. In 2014 the team competed in the Supersport world championship with the young Roberto Tamburini and Alessandro Nocco, who in the last three races are joined by the three-time SS world champion Kenan Sofuoglu who stays with Manuel also in 2015 and wins the title of World Champion! It is an unforgettable season for Kawasaki Puccetti Racing which also celebrates the European Stock 600 title with the very young Toprak Razgatlioglu. The Sultan also won the world championship in 2016 and the following year the team made its debut in the Superbike world championship with the Swiss Randy Krummenacher. Since then there will be many riders who will take turns on the Ninja of the Italian team (Leon Haslam, Sylvain Guintoli) but the one who collected victories and podiums was Razgatlioglu, who after having played two seasons in Stock 1000 passes to the premier class of derivatives, showing immediately his incredible gifts.

With Puccetti Toprak conquers a total of two wins and fifteen podiums, which launch him into the SBK Olympus. Meanwhile, his mentor Kenan Sofuoglu in 2017 is vice world champion despite a serious injury, while in 2018 he disputes some races, but then gets injured again and decides to retire, to devote himself to politics and the young drivers of his country. No.In 2019 the Turkish Puccetti Racing Team wins the standings of the independent SBK teams while in Supersport Lucas Mahias wins 6 podiums and 2 victories. Razgatlioglu goes to Yamaha but the collaboration between Puccetti and Sofuoglu continues.

In 2020, in addition to racing in SBK with Xavi Fores, he makes the German Philipp Oettl debut in 600, while the following year he promotes Mahias in the higher class and takes care of another young Turkish: “Can Oncu”. And we are in 2022, with Mahias confirmed in Superbike and the couple Yari Montella Can Oncu in Supersport.

This is the story of Manuel Puccetti’s team who in this video interview also tells us about his concerns related to the new regulations that favor the Next generation, but they seem to have forgotten the Kawasakis.
