N.J. police officer seriously injured in crash with utility truck, police say

A Linden police officer and a pickup driver were seriously injured in a Tuesday morning crash involving three vehicles and two parked cars, police said.

The crash happened at 11:42 a.m. on Tuesday, at the intersection of South Wood Avenue and 19th Street in Linden, police said. The officer was in a marked police car when he crashed with a utility truck.

The utility truck then hit a pickup truck, and two parked cars.

Police say the pickup truck driver and police officer were both taken to Newark University Hospital with serious injures that were not considered life-threatening. The utility truck driver had minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital

It’s not clear if the officer was responding to a call, or what the cause of the crash was.

Additional information was not available Tuesday afternoon, a spokesman for Union County said.
